Royal King Seeds supplies 1,677 cannabis seed varieties to growers across New Zealand. We did not breed them — they come from established seed houses whose work we stock, catalogue and ship. What we add is a catalogue organised the way people here actually shop, strain data we are willing to stand behind, and growing guidance written for a Southern Hemisphere season.
What we actually are
We are a retailer. Every strain here was bred by someone else, most of them by seed houses with decades behind them, and our job is to get that genetics to your door with the packaging discreet and the description accurate.
That is a less impressive story than inventing the cultivars ourselves, and it is the true one. What we can tell you sits in three places, kept apart on purpose: what the original breeder published, what New Zealand growers report back, and the analysis on each strain’s own genetics report.

How we handle strain information
Four rules, mostly about what we will not do.
We source, we do not breed
The genetics in this catalogue were bred by established seed houses — the names behind the classics and the modern dessert lines alike. Where we know which breeder originated a strain, the strain page says so. We are the shop, not the breeding programme, and telling you otherwise would make every other claim on this site worth less.
A blank field beats an invented one
Flowering time, height, yield and THC come from the breeder or a published reference. Where no figure exists we leave the field empty rather than filling it with a plausible-looking range. That is why some strain pages carry less data than others — the gaps are real, and hiding them would only cost you a season.
A guarantee is a different thing from a report
We guarantee 95% germination and replace anything that falls short — same strain, same pack size, free of charge. That is a promise with a remedy behind it, which is not the same as the per-strain analysis published on each genetics report: one commits us to putting a failure right, the other sets out what a cultivar is. Whichever you came for, what decides your own outcome is method — damp paper at around 22°C, kept dark, never allowed to dry out, and a full week before you call it.
Written for this country, not converted to it
Our growing content is written for growing at 34 to 47 degrees south — plant out from October, harvest March to May, and plan around a wet autumn rather than a dry one. Most cannabis growing advice online is written for the Northern Hemisphere and is six months out of step by the time it reaches you.
Why a New Zealand catalogue looks different
New Zealand is temperate oceanic end to end. There is no tropical zone and no dry interior, so the constraint on an outdoor grow here is almost never heat — it is how much rain falls while the plants are in flower, and how early the first frost arrives.
That changes what is worth stocking. In Northland, Auckland and the Bay of Plenty the season is long enough for almost anything, but February and March humidity means an open bud structure matters more than a headline THC figure. Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough get the highest sunshine hours with the lowest summer rain, which makes them the most forgiving outdoor conditions in the country. In Canterbury, Otago and Southland the first frost sets the deadline, which is why autoflowering seeds and autoflowering indicas dominate down there.
Reading all 1,677 listings is nobody’s idea of an evening. The strain finder cuts them down by space, experience and where you are in about a minute, and the growing guides deal with the parts of a season that catch people out at these latitudes.
One thing we will not do
Stock goes to adults as souvenirs and for keeping genetic lines intact. What your own jurisdiction allows is not something we will tell you. The rules differ from place to place, they get amended, and the consequences of getting it wrong land on you rather than on us — so establishing what applies to you belongs with you, before an order is placed.
